my lips are so cracked and dry. They are actually bleeding in a couple of places. Any suggestions? Am I deficient in something? Like chocolate?!

I just said the same thing to friend of mine. She said it was just the weather, don't lick your lips, and wear good lip balm.

definitely a chocolate deficiency. Really. I know about these things. If the chocolate doesn't help, I have no other ideas. Mine are bad right now and I drink water like it's going out of style. I actually had to use Burt's Bees tinted chapstick-type stuff yesterday. I never do that.

Also, drinking tons of water probably contributes to your lips being wet-dry-wet-dry-wet-dry all day, which dries them out. I like Burt's Bees lip balm myself. Smells yummy, no petroleum. I've given up trying to live without!

Honestly my best discover for me is MAC lip glass. I put it on at bedtime and the stuff is so thick it really heals my cracked lips and helps prevent them from splitting. Lip balm does diddly for me so this is the stuff I use.
**I just wanted to add one of the main ingredients in the lipglass is jojoba oil and vit e.......it's really thick so it stays on for a very long time.

A humidifier might help. If you can afford it, look into a whole house humidifier that can be connected to your furnace. We had an April Aire one in our last house with gas heat. I kinda miss it. We heat mostly with a wood stove now & we keep a pot of water (specifically made for this) always on the stove to increase humidity but it takes a lot of remembering which I don't always get around to. The April Aire takes care of itself. Humidity may really make a difference for you. You can get a little Hygrometer which measures the humidity level in a room from Holmes. (Mine came with a small room size humidifier I bought).
I also always put on a layer of Petroleum jelly every night on my lips to prevent most chapped, cracking issues. If the other poster is right, you may want to drink your water with a straw to keep your lips from getting wet.

I found this interesting. I drink more water than anyone I know, and my lips are constantly cracking and drying out. I keep chapstick in every room of the house, every coat pocket, every car - I'm never without it. I like your idea that it's a chocolate deficiency!
ETA: We also have a humidifier hooked to our furnace - maybe I need to try a straw?

I use a straw bottle, and normally don't have a problem, FWIW. But our house has been really dry (we had problems with our humidifier) the past week or so. I'll still blame it on the chocolate, though.

Try adding a few capsules of flaxseed oil to your diet--wonderful for any dry skin, even lips.

I wear lipstick religiously. I haven't had chapped lips since I began wearing it. You can buy a very inexpensive humidifier and it will help tremendously.

My dry skin responds well to fish (or flax) oil in my diet.
