for ds7.

He finished The Hobbit several weeks ago and informed me this morning that he's ready to start another "big book". I suggested the Redwall series, but for some reason he's being a stubborn little boy and his holding onto his very first impression that he doesn't like them (even though I know he does :p).

Any suggestions? He reads very well and likes fantasy.

I'm thinking you've read it to him if he hasn't already but has he read Narnia? My 7 year old is just finishing The Last Battle today! He's so excited. I am encouraging him to read the Hobbit next.

I asked about this topic on the accelerated board a couple of days ago and got a good handful of answers. Maybe you could get some good ideas there.

The Princess and the Goblin might please him. There is also the Half Magic series by Edward Eager, then the E. Nesbit books that the Eager books make reference to (they are harder reading though). Adventure (but not fantasy) books that my sons have enjoyed are the Swallows and Amazons books by Arthur Ransome.

Freddy the Pig, any and all.

Edit: And ok, they're nothing like The Hobbit! But a delight, nevertheless.

One of our family favorites is the Secret of Platform 13.
