Maybe they are all of our friend/family/neighbors/co-workers spying on us. :p

I'm a lurker, and one thing that keeps me from coming out of hiding is that I don't have a cool avatar and siggie and stuff like that.:o

That's easy enough to fix! What is something you love that we could get a pic of? Who is an author you enjoy?

Yeah, but you have mad emoticon skills.
It's not that hard to make a signature if you want one, though. I wouldn't have one except that 1) I like to tell everyone what SFSOM means and 2) I'm not a homeschooler now and I sorta allude to that in the signature line.
Anyway, just go into your User Control Panel and play around. Don't be hidin'. :D

And SapphireStitch is a cool moniker too. You could do all sorts of clever things with that!:)

Or you can make your own with your own photo (like I did!) using photoshop or an avatar sizer program.
Then you go to the User Control Panel up top. Then you click on the left where it says "edit avatar." Then click the browse button and find it on your computer.

I'm guessing lurkers but can't you lurk without joining?? I know that I lurked for a couple of months at a Guinea Pig sight before I joined and posted.

Don't let that stop you--I don't have any of those yet, either. I have an old photo of me in my old mime face I'd like to scan and use, but 1. I don't know if I still have it or if I purged it and 2. if I still have it, I have no idea where it is since we've moved. As for a cool signature, I don't know how to choose just one thing.:D

I haven't posted yet. I need to figure out how to do this. Maybe just doing it is the way to go? I was mainly a lurker on the old board - the time zones are so different (I'm in eastern Australia). Most people are posting here while I'm busy doing what homeschooling mothers are supposed to do.

Don't worry about the time zones. It will just mean that your posts will be waiting for people when they wake up! Also, I'm surprised how many people must have insomnia on this board. We are in the Pacific NW and I am on sometimes up until 11 pm and I still see people posting from the east coast of the U.S.!

Great Avatar. Pegasus is cool and wouldn't it be grand to have horses with wings. Maybe someday it will happen.

Really, this new format allows so much freedom in adding all sorts of fun to our posts.

I'm lurking because my homeschooler is only 10 months. So while I'm gathering information and learning stuff now, I don't really have much to contribute yet :).
That said I find it a lot easier to lurk and read the new boards then the old ones, I really do prefer this format.

We're only at 9 months here. http://www.thestarvingbrain.com/forum/Smileys/default/highfive.gif I tried to post in that old forum a few times but just couldn't get into it. I did make a note if they ever upgraded the site that I would post more and I've made an effort to contribute.

Oh my, I posted a quick response to why I was lurking and never expected to get all this info...and GLOWAcademy even made me an avatar...cool!
Thanks for all the help, everybody! I'll play around with the graphics and see what comes from it. It took me almost a year to make up my mind to start a blog because I was being perfectionistic about it...I'll try to do better about getting started posting here.
Hi to all the other lurkers who posted! To those who said they hadn't been homeschooling long enough to feel good posting...let me just say it doesn't necessarily get easier with time. My oldest is 18 and I've been homeschooling her since kindergarten, and I think every year I know LESS about homeschooling than I did before. I think we just have to leap in and support each other anyway.

I lurked for well over 6 years and my oldest is only 3 and half. So, you can see we're really interested in homeschooling and all of you provide great inspiration and motivation to take it up. As I've gotten more involved in blogging, I've become braver to comment. I still feel that I have very little to contribute, so I read and read.
I kind of miss the old format, just because it flowed like women's thoughts (spaghetti-like). I didn't have to enter every conversation to catch the "whispers" and on liners (which usually provide great laughs and smiles).

Go to the board that you want to post on. At the top of the first page, there is a blue button that says New Thread. Press on that and it will take you to the posting page.
