Here is my plan for my dd going into 7th. I am open to any alterations but with working part time, homeschooling 4 and having a toddler around, I need my oldest to work on some things independently (she likes doing her own thing!).

*Science-Rainbow Science Year 2
*Latin- Henle Latin Year 1
*Math-Jacobs algebra
*History- Either Sonlight core 7 or Omnibus 3 (I don't know which to use, any advice???) She is using Truthquest now but she wants a schedule. I was also considering doing Sonlight 7 4-day/week and buying Omnibus 3 and doing it over 2 years as the topics/books fit into Sonlight 7 and 100. Any thoughts on this?
*Writing- If I use Omnibus, I will alter the writing to fit IEW. If we use Sonlight, I'll buy one of the writing lessons from IEW like History based writing lessons and spread it over 2 years.

Do I really need to do another year of grammar or spelling? She has finished R&S 6 and is a natural speller.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I don't think you would need another year of grammar. If you have covered the basics, just use her writing to reinforce what she has learned. If she is having some trouble or making some errors then review the concept and move on. Besides she is doing Latin and from what I have heard that will help to reinforce grammar.

I would drop spelling. If she is a natural speller, she doesn't need any formal lessons. Again, use her daily work as a check. If she has a spelling error, just point it out and if the same types of errors continue then go over the rule that applies.

Overall, I think your 7th grade schedule looks good. You've covered all of the basics and the workload looks manageable.

Since your daughter is a natural speller, have you considered doing a vocabulary or word roots program? Generally, the 7th & 8th portions of a spelling program are not geared to spelling but to word roots.

Also, I would consider continuing some type of grammar program through 8th grade. Even if it is a review type program in conjunction with Latin, it would help solidify and apply the grammar concepts she has learned. I don't plan to use a grammar program in high school, but I do plan to continue our grammar program up to that point.

Good luck! My oldest will be in 7th grade next year too. I've found planning for his "junior high years" a bit intimidating at times.
