I want to do a study (unit, literary, ect) of some sort with my ds7 using the Redwall book.

He is a very strong reader and can comprehend things at a high level.

I would like to use a study guide to help me in leading discussions, suggesting activities, ect. I have found two and wonder if any of you have experience with them.

1. The Redwall Study Guide by Robert and Janice Delong
2. Redwall: A Teaching Guide (Discovering Literature Series) by Mary Elizabeth Podhaizer

From what I have been able to gather, there is also a map and cookbook available. Any experience with either of these?

What other resources am I missing?

Thanks for your help!

My kids have a map with Redwall quizzes (got it for 25 cents at a library book sale) and the cookbook. They love both. The cookbook is so cute, and the recipes we tried tasted fine.

I bought "Redwall: A Teaching Guide (Discovering Literature Series)" to use with my 2nd & 5th grade dc. It looks very good. The only reason we haven't started it yet is because they're waiting for me to finish reading Redwall!

If you can find the model of Redwall Abbey, which is a tagboard press-out-and-assemble large item, your ds would likely enjoy it.

The cookbook has poems and stories and is quite delightful. Many of the recipes you'd expect to see are also available in a less lovely format on the web here. (http://www.redwall.net/kitchen/)

An unschooling parent chronicled the spontaneous educational activities that came from reading Redwall here (http://members.shaw.ca/sandykeane/redwall.html).

Some food recipes are also on-line. Check out the Redwall sites on-line for coloring pictures. The children also made banners. It was great fun. The dc were 11 and 12 and we used the Progeny Press Guide. And they made their own maps and wrote letters on parchment and... Have fun.

Heya Brittney!

I actually have a bunch of Redwall stuff, included some computerized lesson plans I bought from somewhere, since Kiera went through a major Redwall phase a couple of years ago. I'll have to dig through her room to find it, but I'll throw it in my car to show you. Now we just need to get together so I can pass it along! :D

Edited to add: The map is on her bedroom wall. (Her room is "Redwall themed"... lol!) But we have the cookbook!

This sounds like a lot of fun and something my boys would like to do. I will google it and see what I can find. Thanks for the suggestion! :001_smile:

Thanks so much for these links, Rose! I can't wait to check them out. :001_smile:

I like the banner idea. We are actual in the process of making a banner (we are studying the Middle Ages right now) for our homeschool. With my sons love of animals and the middle ages, I think a banner for this series would fit right in! Thanks for the idea!
