Hi all,

After some thought and talking with dh we both decided that my oldest really needs some formal vocabulary. He likes to use big words but I don't know that he always knows what they mean and how to use them appropriately . I like the looks of Wordly Wise, but I'm not sure where to start him. He's technically doing 4th grade work, but has never had any Vocab as an actual curriculum. For those that have used the latest version, would you put him in book 4 or would you bump him back a book to 3rd. I would have no problem working through the summer on it too so as to fit in books 3 and 4 by next fall.

Thanks in advance.

If he's doing 4th grade work, I'd start with the 4th grade book. You can download a sample lesson from each grade level at the EPS website (www.epsbooks.com), and also a list of all the vocabulary words in each book. That might help you decide.
We're using Wordly Wise, but it's not a big hit. I'm still trying to decide if it's helpful for us or not.

The books do not really build on each other. Each level is just a little harder. I would not feel you would have to do Grade 3 before 4. It would even work to go out of order so don't stress about the decision at all. Look at the sample pages and just go for it.

Thanks for the info,

I was out today running errands and noticed that the local hs bookstore was open so I picked up a copy of Grade 4 today. We'll give it a shot and see how it goes.
