LOL I am telling you, I must not be holding my mouth right when I search. I know I have seen multiple threads on this but CANNOT find them. LOL :) Figures, right?

Okay, geography. Yes, I said it. GEOGRAPHY. LOL We do the mapwork assignments in the book so I know they are getting some exposure, but I feel like the kiddos need more than what they are getting. KWIM? I always point out hills, mountains, valleys, islands, piedmonts (as best I can) and more... but, I feel this is lacking.

So, does anyone use a supplement for geography? If so what do you use? What do you like or dislike about the program? Thanks!

We have used Evan-Moor Daily Geography lessons as a supplement.

I like to incorporate geography all over the place and in a variety of ways.

For terms, I really like Geography A to Z by Jack Knowlton. It is a picture book, but covers a lot of material. You could use it to do illustrated copywork pages.

We have The Amazing Pop-up Geography Book and it is amazing. I accidentally ended up with two and I am glad. Both of my girls will sit and look over it for a long time. They are learning quite a bit by just exploring this book.

I also have MapTangle that we play together and at our earth science co-op. We have contient puzzles that We are working on mastering. And we do the World puzzle about once a quarter together.

We have maps on several walls and look up things frequently. We talk about location. We try to incorporate how location influenced events when we can. I try to put geography into science when I can - it has been easy so far with animals and with earth science.

We used the maps in SOTW as reference and drew our own maps. I would make an underlay using Uncle Josh's Maps, or National Geographic, or anywhere I could find a map of the area in question, blow it up and make a bigger map. We would trace the whole new map on nice vellum, add all geographic features (perhaps using our atlas as reference) and then add the specific historical information from SOTW. Often we would add illustrations, or diagrams, to the maps. We've done this for all four years and my kids sure know their geography now.

We're using the Evan Moor Beginning Geography books - just finishing up book 1 right now. There are 3 of them. They're recommended in The Latin-Centered Curriculum.

Karen, thanks for the mention of the pop-up geography book - that just went in my cart at Amazon!
