DD is 8 and she and I want to learn to sew. Hand first, then maybe machine. I appreciate it!

We've used projects from this book: http://www.amazon.com/Sewing-Fun-Kids-Patchwork-Gifts/dp/1571204105/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1200876549&sr=8-1 It's called Sewing Fun For Kids, and there's a machine sewing version also. It has a great introduction section and fun paper sewing projects to practice before you move into cloth.

You also might check out this blog: Hearts and Trees (http://heartsandtrees.blogspot.com/2008/01/introducing-hearts-and-trees-sewing.html). She is putting together sewing school mini-kits. I just bought one last week, so I can't review it. I'll post later on. She also has a post about putting together a sewing box for children. I have really enjoyed looking through her blog.

How about the Sewing series by the National 4-H Cooperative Curriculum System? My dd learned the basics of machine sewing using this series. I don't believe it teaches to sew by hand, but is a wonderful, inexpensive resource which includes many ideas for projects she can make for herself as well as community service ideas.
