I was looking over the website and it doesn't go into detail(or I didn't find it) about if you are to use this curriculum for English and Science or use a separate curriculum
We really enjoy using R&S grammar and Apologia Science, but I don't want to have to much on dc.

If we are to use this for English and Science, can we just not go into depth on that and use the other curriculum?

This year we are using IEW.

Also, how long does it take your dc to do the work in Trism?

You need a lab science to go with TRISMS. In addition you would need grammar, if you are still doing that. Grammar is not part of TRISMS. TRISMS does fulfill a literature/composition credit, I believe.

Honestly, we tried TRISMS this year, but my son started to really dislike history, so we dropped it.

I have not been able to find a history curriculum that we have enjoyed.
So this year we are just covering geography, this way I have a whole year to find something that will work for us.

Also what is he using now?

My kids are loving Trisms. We are doing DAW this year and I was concerned that it was a lot of work on them. Lots of writing, lots of research.... so I've been very vocal in asking them how they feel about it and they both love it (this is my 16 and 14 yos). Just wanted to let you know that it does work for some kids - now my sixth grader started HM this year and absolutely hated it so we had to move on to something else. We are doing very little grammar - just a 10 minute review-type exercise and my daughter is doing Biology in Your Home and my son is doing Apologia Chemistry. We are also doing the science questionnaires from Trisms and it's all going very well.

He felt that history became too disjointed. Up through last year we did SOTW. He started it in 4th grade and it took us 5 years to finish. Since SOTW has the book as a spine, it is easy to see the flow of history. TRISMS has no such spine, and so for him history became very disconnected.

So, we are now using Streams of Civilization along with the maps from SOTW. I sat down and planned out the year based on Ancient Israel and Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. I went back and reread WTM sections on history at all levels and I am incorporating a lot of the outlining. I am also doing what Jessie Wise had her children do. They are going to the library each week and taking out a book in 8 different categories. Last week was our first week. I hope it continues to go well. I made a little form for each of them to fill in as they selected books, and I had to approve them.

I have a friend whose son absolutely loves TRISMS. However, for those who have trouble with it the disjointed nature of it seems to be the big complaint. I wish I had know that before we purchased it. Now I am planning to sell my EOC.

Best wishes,
