I'm taking my boys into the city tomorrow for our very first homeschool field trip. I have my notes and I printed off the educator's guides from their webpage, so I think we're ready. We've been studying the formation of the universe, galaxy and the Earth and the museum looks like it has amazing displays to help us further that study. :)

Has anyone here been there recently? Any tips?

We're taking the train all the way from our hometown into NYC (about 1.5 hrs total) and I think they are going to love the train ride just as much as they like the museum.

My son was about 4 and 3/4 yo at that point. He LOVED it! He walked just about every square foot of the place! I was amazed. And he really took it all in too. He still asks questions relating back to it.

There is a small discovery type room for the kids, be sure to look for that. I believe it's relatively new. (As in new the past few years.)

I don't know about the train, we just drove in since we live so close to the city.

If they saw Night at the Museum, the dinosaur from it is in the second floor entry lobby. There isn't anything else from the movie inside. My son had only seen the first 10-15 minutes of the movie, but his "Grandma" was disappointed there weren't more things from the movie to see.

You'll have a great time. It's just an incredible place.

My kids so want us to do this and I haven't gotten up the nerve to do it yet. Don't know why?? I've taken them into DC, Baltimore, Philly, Boston; and I took myself all over London, Paris and Milan. Why is NYC frightening me? Give me some encouragement, please!
