And do you also use it for copywork? If not, what do you use for copywork?

In the lower grades, copywork is penmanship practice!

Then, when the children switch to cursive, it again becomes penmanship practice.

I use Startwrite--because in our house, the penmanship and copywork is also our memory work. (which they have typed out in their "Nobility" Folders.

Copywork is penmanship practice here as well. I like the primary copywork pages from Notebooking Nook. They are very cute and allow me to write at the top and for my dc to copy the sentence below and then color the pages.

I write out my copywork on a day to day basis for a few reasons:

1. When I work with a child who is just beginning to write I write a letter and she copies and then finds out what her secret word for the day is. This allows me to correct mistakes in printing while she is writing.

2. If I get a spur of the moment idea I can use it.

3. We do a variety of things for copywork including science, history, phonics, etc.

We also just do copywork as our penmanship practice here. We don't use a program. I have them copy things we are memorizing like poems and Bible verses or passages from books that they enjoy reading.

We just do copywork. I've printed up one of the Just So Stories in GDI and DD copies it in her book. I let her do as much or little as she sees fit; she's periodically motivated to improve her writing.

Copywork, for us, is penmanship practice.

Copywork, not only give penmanship practice, but, for my child it (along with oral narration) is the first step in teaching him to write. It reinforces phonics, introduces grammar and proper sentence structure, and lays that foundation for creavtive writing as well. I think it also helps the child to 'visualize' proper spelling.

More then you asked for, I know...but, I am all for streamlining and copywork definitely streamlines and integrates MUCH for us, in just 10 minutes per day. :D

For copywork we using whatever scripture and poem we are memorizing at the time.

We use Handwriting Without Tears for handwriting practice. Then we move into copywork. We use Queen Homeschool's copywork selections, well as, other things we are working on.

We use RFH to learn how to write. Dd7 used K and A to learn how to print, but then we just practiced printing as part of copywork for which I type things up on Startwrite. She is now using RFH Transition to learn how to write in cursive while she is still doing copywork in print. Seems to be working for us, so next dd is following in her footsteps.

What is RFH?

Print is your basic style--similar I think to Zaner Bloser or Manuscript Simple in Startwrite (and the cursive is like Cursive Simple). Traditional looking, no Q's that look like 2. RFH has 4 days of handwriting practice that leads up to writing a scripture verse on a decorated page for day 5.

We use copywork as well without a program. I just pick passages from whatever we are reading. When we get to cursive, we use HWT, then move on to copywork for that as well.

My oldest does one page of Handwriting Without Tears plus some copywork and/or dictation most days. For the copywork and/or dictation, I use the books that he is reading (mostly Sonlight Grade 3 readers) or Bible verses. He also does the writing in R&S English.

My youngest does one page of HWT almost every day. He just began a little bit of copywork. I use short sentences from books that he can read. He doesn't do the copywork as often as the HWT.

I plan to continue to do both HWT and copywork/dictation.

Ok this may seem odd but it worked for Jacob

Take a clear sleeve like youd slip scrap book papers in (The Clear Sleeves in Craft section at walmart)
I Slide in a Copy i made of penmanship or anything you want the child to trace over and had him use eraserable markers, when he is done he erased it, saves on all the printing and they can take paper out and slide something else in sleeve to copy

I forgot to say , it works well when on a road trip, just pop markers in a bag and grab something like coloring pages, or penmanship pages and go :)
