Actually I'd like to start at "go" on word problems and work through a workbook type supplement. I'm realizing that neither of my guys really know how to evaluate a word problem to know what it's asking for.
Any suggestions? I've looked at RR but without being about to put my hands on them, I don't know if it's what we want. I'd love some personal recommendations.
Thanks!

Singapore has great workbooks called Challenging Word Problems. They are only about $7 per book. HTH.

Critical Thinking Press has a great series called "Math Detective (http://www.criticalthinking.com/series/039/index_p.html)" that walks a kid through a math word problem step-by-step. We do use Singapore as our main program and bought MD instead of CWP because rather than just more hard (or even harder) word problems, I thought they needed kind of reading comprehension for word problems, to read them carefully. They also have to give "evidence" for every answer they give - telling which sentence in the word problem gave them the information to answer that question.
