Well, he's not a vet, but DH played broomball a few times. I warned him I thought Broomball was a straight ticket to the ER! Sure enough, DH is now the proud bearer of three titanium screws attaching the ball at the top of the arm bone back on again. And yes, he has played broomball since then!

LOL, broomball is basically ice hockey, but players wear regular tennis shoes instead of iceskates, and use a broom instead of a hockey stick.

Ahh, sounds like fun. I'm also betting that there is no protective gear whatsoever, involved.

My dh and I play on a Coed league. It is funny how the older we get, the more protective gear we add! I chipped one of my elbows last year so I added elbow pads. Many players wear hockey helmets but I will probably add that after a sound concussion. We have special shoes that help us run on ice. The ball is smaller than a soccer ball and the brooms are now aluminum with a wedge end instead of bristles. If you look on Youtube and search "broomball" you will get an idea of what it actually looks like. Funnest game I ever played!:D

I had no idea there were actual "leagues". I played a few times as a teenager. I was a figure skater and my brother was a hockey player, and late at night after the rink was closed (usually after hockey practices, so the ice was totally destroyed), a bunch of us would play broomball informally. Pretty brutal but tons of fun. :)

Does it count that I was pre-vet? :D I had my career all planned out and then got married and moved to Hawaii where there was no vet school. Finished my BA in HI, and by the time we moved back, I was a full-time mom... and eventually chose homeschooling over vet school.

It's ok though!! I have enough of my own critters to keep me jumping, and I do all the routine health care for them... shots, farrier work, etc... I need the vet out for emergencies and dental, mainly.

I've talked to my own vet about it and he says he never gets to spend time with his own animals because he's always on the road taking care of everyone else's. ;) He is on board with me doing the routine stuff myself.

I do have very fond memories of being a vet tech back in those early college days! That was a very interesting job... always something new every single day.

Broomball: I played it once; it was fun!
