First, I should say that I was formally SLB--new boards made me decide to use a new name.

I checked into doing the President's Fitness Challenge awhile ago, and while I can't remember exactly, it seemed like I didn't want to do it because I'd be required to be trained under a local PS PE teacher in order for me to be able to submit the kids results for medals. Could someone explain to me how all of it works? What exactly do you do in order to test the kids, etc.

Here is a link to the Presidential Challenge for homeschools: http://www.presidentschallenge.org/educators/home_schools.aspx

I haven't read anywhere that says we need to be trained under a local PS PE teacher. I DO keep a notebook for each boy to log their daily activity. DH also tracks their improvement on an Excel spreadsheet.

We've been doing President's Challenge for many, many years. Our homeschool group selects a coordinator for it and we just practice together and maintain scores throughout the year and have final testing dates. We have never had anyone trained under ps pe teacher. I know I became confused one year as well when I read that on their website. But we continued to do it as we had before and there has never been a problem. When we're done I just go to the order site and place my order and that it! BTW, I place the order for the group.

Very easy.

Go to this web page:

http://www.presidentschallenge.org/home_kids.aspx

and click on either Active Lifestyle or Presidential Champions and then sign up, sign in and get started recording their fitness levels. It's like a diary log that you keep and they keep you apprised of when you've earned enough points to qualify for the medals. There's a web page with the medals and other stuff on it that you can order when they're close so that you'll have them on hand to give out when ready.

We did the Presidential Champions level,

My ds and I have done this for years as well. We did the active lifestyle award and then moved on to the bronze, silver, and gold. I inputted all activities on their website.

We did this on our own. It's great fun. We ordered the medals and made a big deal of awarding them.

There is a coordinator who runs it. She submits the information.

There is a different part of the challenge that requires a certified person coordinate. But you can also do the parts I mentioned below, on your own, and receive certificates and medals for the work.

I'll have to give that all another look. It sounds like fun.

I help to lead a homeschool group that follows the Presidential Fitness Challenge. We are working on the Physical Fitness (http://www.presidentschallenge.org/educators/program_details/physical_fitness_test.aspx) part of the challenge.

From this (http://www.presidentschallenge.org/educators/home_schools.aspx) page, I see that once you have helped with testing at a qualified place, you are then qualified to administer the testing.

The program is very tough for most of our kids. Many of them cannot complete a push up when we begin. Others cannot run around the track once without stopping. We started in September, and test every other month. One child has achieved the Presidential level. Several others have achieved National. This has been a great program. Most of the time, I love being involved in it. ;)
