what would you want to come away with?

Sample books?
Ideas for topics?
Strategies for implementing in your curriculum?
A Q&A session for your own particular needs?

I'm teaching a class in two weeks - I have a pretty good feel for what I'm going to do, but more perspective is always nice :D

Thanks!

I'd like

A definition of what lapbooking is (love the def that says "visual outline")

Lots of examples of lapbooks, for varying ages, and ones at different "depths" for want of a better word! A really simple one, a really complex one, etc.

I'd like to be given the opportunity to learn by doing a number of folds, esp the pizza fold and some of the "cooler" books! lol

I'd like to be told when to use which book--a list, if you will, of which books for what sorts of info (kinda like Dinah Zike does in her books--examples of 3 part info for a 3 part book, for example)

I'd like a comparison of homemade lapbooks and HOAC, Knowledge Box or other pre-made books

Just some of what would be attractive!

:iagree:

What a great list of ideas! The only thing I would add to that is some online resources with information. There are several Squidoo lenses that have some fantastic information on them. Maybe some blogs that have a lot of info or some yahoo groups.

When we heard SWB in July, a woman did a workshop of sorts on lapbooking. She uses Dina Zike resources like Chris mentioned. The best thing was actually folding the paper ourselves - so we got a real sense of the process. She had all kinds of already made ones too, which was good once we got the gist of what she was describing.

She also talked about how each one had been used in her school - so include some of your own experiences and how your children enjoyed making them. :)

I would love to actually attempt some folds myself as I struggle with reading instructions and don't get it until I do it.

I would love to various books done by various ages so that i don't feel that my young children are failures because their books are no so neat as some older kids.

:iagree:I haven't done any lapbooks with my dc yet, but if I were to attend a seminar, I'd like to have the opportunity to create at least part of a lapbook.

I would want to be walked through making one example myself that uses all of the major techniques.

I would like to hear how this fits in with learning.

The only lapbooking presentation that I have ever attended was given by someone who actually favors unit studies documented with notebooking more than lapbooking. She encourages her children to use lapbooking as a way of 'finishing' some of their notebooking work, and doesn't have them do this for each and every 4-6 week unit. I thought that that was a sensible, nuanced approach that suited me very well, but if your philosophy is different, present it and say why that is your view.
