Survey course textbooks - are they usually light on details?

I found some newer high school textbooks, one for US History and the other for World History. Both are by major publishers. I was surprised and disappointed that the information included was so light on the details. Is this typical for a survey course?

Depends on the author and publisher, I'd say. But, using a college level textbook for a survey course will give you more detail and the reading levels are similar.
