Has anyone successfully won a local scholarship for their homeschooled graduate?
We're going through the list of local scholarships, and most of them specify graduation from the public high school. A few don't mention that as a requirement, but I wonder if it's just assumed? Applications are usually processed through the local high school's guidance office, so just applying will be a bit of a challenge for us. What has been your experience? They are all small awards, and I want it to be worth dd's time to apply.
Thanks in advance for your wisdom!

Yes! They can, but it depends on the organization. I noticed the blurb for the local arts scholarship in our paper and called them. I asked, "Did you mean to exclude the hsers?" No, they did not and the woman DROVE out to the house to bring my dd an application. Everyone "knew" that Janet ** was going to get it, but my dd applied and played her audition. Just as she was leaving, they asked her one more question: "What are you most proud of in high school?" "That I came on the slowest swimmer on the team as a sophomore and our senior year, we took a relay to State." (we'd never had anyone make it) She got the scholarship and later I was told that she got it because she had OTHER things besides just arts stuff.
However, I asked about a particular 4-H scholarship a few years ago and yes, they meant to exclude the hsers. Seems they gave it to hser that was doing an online program and the girl didn't follow through at school, flunked out, caused problems, etc. So, now, only our local ps kids can apply. I'm going to fighting that one as my next dd would be a good candidate. It could be interesting, as a local ps teacher (and FFA advisior)said that this scholarship would be given to another hser over his dead body (he didn't know I was standing there).
My 2nd dd was invited to apply for a different 4-H scholarship (and she would have gotten it) but she declined to as she had her USNA Appointment. Turns out, she could have used that money for the upfront charge for her computer and first uniforms, but we didn't know that.
