Get a shoe box. Cover it with construction paper. Cut out a circle about the size of a paper plate - or use a paper plate. Add triangle ears (cut out of construction paper and glued on the paper plate). Add oval green eyes. Add a small triangle pink nose (if you want to make it valentiney - make it a small pink valentine nose!). Add six slim black rectangle whiskers (three on each side of the nose). Draw a red mouth under the nose (like a lower-case "w"). Glue the paper plate to the top of the shoe box. Lift lid to deposit valentines. Voila!

The cannister is wrapped in white butcher block paper and gives it more of a realistic look (after all, aren't v-day boxes intended to be realistic, lol). Anyway, I cut the face and tail out of fun foam. Easy and cheap.

Thanks so much for the instructions! Dd and I made it this morning, and it is very cute! She wanted to put the cat face on the end of the box, so that she could make a pipe cleaner tail for the other end. We cut a slit in the lid for putting in the Valentines. Thanks again!

A canister is a really good idea. Unfortunately, we don't have any empty ones right now. I'll have to keep that in mind for next year. Thanks!

How cute! My dd6 has been so excited about Valentine's Day. She has been making secret valentines for two weeks now!
