We are using SWR and it is going very well. However, next year I will have 3 children in K-4. I don't think I will have the time to use SWR with all 3. I think my oldest could use another, less intensive program. He is a very good, natural speller and SWR has given him an excellent base. What would you use in this situation? Thanks!

is to just give him a list of words (i.e. N-6), have him mark them, then make him responsible for learning them by Friday for a test. I am doing this with my 3rd and 5th this year, since neither they nor I have the time to do all the review SWR really stresses.

May be you can get a dictation program or make up your own sentences based on the Wise Guide ?

Here are some of the dictation program I know:
1. Spelling Wisdom from www.simplycharlottemason.com
2. Spelling Plus Dictation

Thanks for the good ideas! I know it is a little early to be thinking about next year, but.... I can't help myself. :) I really like the idea of dictation and the Spelling Wisdom thing looks neat (great English I just used there!).

How do you use dictation? Do you give the sentence, then mark words that are wrong via SWR? Or, let the child study the sentence first and mark words that they are not sure of? Hmmmm.......

Depends on the child, but when I was doing dictation for spelling, I gave the passage as copywork on Monday, and let my kids choose their spelling words (up to 5 or 7). Then I did the passage as dictation on Friday, up to the point they had studied. This worked pretty well for them.

Megawords. It's a strong comprehension spelling/vocab program that teaches syllabication/syllabification rules. Great science backing it up.
