Hello there,
I have a question about LC1 and Famous Men of Rome. Is the history from FMR taught in the DVD's? I have the dvd's and we just finished lesson 3 and haven't come across any of the history yet. I only figured out last week that I'm supposed to have FMR and I was hoping that it was taught in the dvd's so I don't have to do it.:thumbup1:
If it's not included in the dvd's how do you teach it? We're doing SOTW3 for history, so I don't feel the need to make a huge study of it. But, it's referred to in the tests and I'm assuming that the knowledge might be necessary later on in the LC series. If I decide that including it is necessary then I'm planning on listening to it online.
Oh, and if it matters it's for my dd in 3rd.
TIA

It's completely optional. You can just skip that part of the test. Alternatively, you can read out of FMR once a week. Look at the tests to figure out what chapters to read.
The idea is that learning about the culture and people of Rome makes learning Latin more fun. Which it does. But if you can't squeeze it it, don't worry about it.
My children are in all different levels of Latin and we do ONE period of Roman history per week. I don't worry about coordinating with the LC tests. We did FMR one year and now we do the Plutarch Readings from Ambleside Online.
Like I said, it's optional.
ETA: I don't have the dvd's , but I know that the TM doesn't schedule FMR. It's considered supplemental, like Ludere Latine or Lingua Angelica.

We're on lesson 10 of LC2, and I have never done the history component of this series. I asked awhile ago about the necessity of it, and most said it's not necessary to the course. I figured the same thing as you - we were reading through SOTW and supplementing, so we just skipped the Latin history stuff. I don't have ds complete those parts of the tests, either.

Thank you so much for your input. I kind of thought that I could skip it, but it's nice to know that the history is not necessary for later on.
Thanks
Strawberry, who's a little chilled now that fall had definitely come.
I hope this works right! Someone just posted this site about a week ago. It is a site where the books are read. You can listen for free. I think you may have to sign up if you wish to download them. I don't know if that would cost money. My kids love listening to books on tape so this worked great for us.
