I am trying to find someting for geography that will cover peoples and cultures. We are doing the Evan Moor daily geography worksheetsw which are great for mapping skills. We are memorizing countries and capitals through Runkle which is also going well. I have been using the Runkle World Physical Geography book at a slow pace once a week as well. However, this just ain't it. I really want ds (age 10.5) to learn about cultures (food, traditional clothing, customs, etc.) of various countries. However, I do NOT want a full-blown program. Just something we can use once a week to complement the other things we are doing. I have the Usborne Internet-Linked book of geography, but I want something else. That one just isn't it either.
Thanks.

that I don't want Trail Guide or the Evan Moor continent books. These are just more research-y than I would like. I want a lovely book with lots of pictures/photographs that my son can just read one day a week for a bit to get an overview of this topic.

I'm going to use DK's "How People Live", and just read a few pages each week, then look at the map or globe to pinpoint where the people live.
I really like this book because it is purely cultural geography, not physical. It covers many very diverse groups of people, many of which I have never heard of. Most sections are two-page spreads, and plenty of photographs. It really covers a lot of native peoples, and various ethnic groups.
I plan on doing this one day per week, and another day doing mapping. My DS is 11.5.

The books in The Lands, Peoples, and Cultures series are great for studying specific countries. I've also used the Disney Learning book called Our World and a DK book: Celebrations! Festivals, Carnivals, and Feast Days From Around the World.

You get United Str. don't you? There are many videos you could watch to supplement your program.

We checked this out from the library. I think unicef has a similar book, but I forget the title.

We have this book at home and use it for this type of study, too. Also, I add in Best Loved Stories from Around the World for cultural stories.
