View Full Version : Will WWE work for us if dd didn't enjoy FLL1/2?

Loaded question, I know. I don't mean to say anything critical of FLL1/2 but dd would cringe every time I brought out the book. It just wasn't the right fit for us, I guess. :) I also find she didn't retain the information as well as I had thought she would. I've since switched to Shurley2 and she LOVES it!- Grammar is one of her favourite subject now.

Shurley does not do much as much with writing as I would like and it certainly leaves out copywork (unless you count writing down vocabulary words and their definitions) and dictation. I know WWE includes copywork and dictation so I'm tempted to use it but I'm apprehensive about it because FLL1/2 was such a flop for us. I also don't want to add to my collection of purchased, yet unused curriculum.:001_huh:

I would prefer a program that is all laid out for me as I am too busy to piece something together on my own at this time. Anybody have some advice for me?

Well, we tried FLL 1/2 not once but TWICE and couldn't get through it either time. The chanting/memorization drove me crazy! My dd didn't like it either. I'm using WWE workbook 1 with my 7yo ds now, and I *love* it. Short, simple, and to the point. We are several weeks into it now and I can see so much improvement in his copywork/narrations skills.

HTH!

Yes, it will. Print out the sample lessons on PHP--they give a pretty good feel for how it works.

I don't care for FLL 1/2, but like WWE.

We are also FLL dropouts. I tried it in earnest last year for my son in 3rd and we didn't like the chanting repetition. We now use GWG and started WWE this year. I'm using WWE year 1 for both my now 4th grader and 1st grader (my older really didn't get any writing instruction before now) We all love WWE. It's short and to the point and the kids enjoy the selections from the WWE workbook for copywork and narration. We're about 6 weeks in and the kids look forward to it, and I've seen improvement in my older's narration. My younger is also doing well, considering this is her first go of it.

I'm not fond of FLL, tried it with my ds last year and then dropped it. We love WWE though. And I ended up using FLL with my dd, but that's another story. My point is, WWE is quite different than FLL! :001_smile:
