I am new here and I am looking for curriculum for my oldest which is a 1st grader. The Noah plan interests me but I can't find anyone who uses it! Anyone here use this? How much work is involved planning wise?
Thanks Amanda from Ohio

My older kids attended a Principle Approach school for several years, and I know the teachers worked very, very hard to plan lessons. My kids got a great education from a Biblical perspective. (And they were in VERY small classes...)

When we began homeschooling, I tried loosely to follow what they had been doing. At this point, I prefer to do history from a world, chronological viewpoint. (My one criticism of Principle Approach was that it spent too much time on early American history and not enough of world history or even American history past the Civil War. Each year my kids begin with early American history and if they got to the civil war, it was a miracle. They can tell you LOADS about the Revolutionary War period, early original documents, etc.)

I do loosely follow the Literature suggestions. As soon as my youngest has covered the basics of phonics, we'll begin reading whole books. I'd have to get the guide out, but I recall Little House in the Big Woods as one of the first books. I probably won't follow exactly their lit selections as I'll want to find things that coordinate more with our history BUT it's a great starting point.

I know there are a few families here that use the Noah Plan and I hope they'll chime in and give you better information about implementing it at home.

I love the principle approach. I think it is awesome. However, from studying the book by Mr. James Rose. (one of the big red books) Principle approach is a methodology. The Noah Plan does have history from the beginning of time. The chain of Christianity starts with creation, Moses and the Law, Christ, Paul, The Bible in English, Christopher Columbus, expansion and erosion, and rebuilding. The literature for example using pinocchio teaches about italy. Heidi teaches about Switzerland, and where they are all on the chain of christianity.
You could use just about any curriculum and 4r it, using research reason relate and record get the basic vocabulary of the subject, look it up in the 1828 dictionary, then look it up in the bible concordance. and discuss any subject any topic using this method. Certain people in history you could discuss if their choices were of God or self. by using the cause and effect. internal to external. Once you study it to learn it yourself you could use just about anything. But the mom has to do the work and learn for herself. its not just opening a textbook and not working first. The one great advantage of this is how much you will also learn. i hope this helps. nancyt. :)
