My dd wants her own Bible - not a Bible storybook but a Bible! :D She wasn't too impressed with me when I suggested that she take the Beginner's Bible to church. :001_smile: I would like one with lots of illustrations and an easy-to-read text, but something that will last a few years before she transitions to a KJV. She is still pretty young so for now it's more for taking to church and looking at the pictures :D Any recommendations?

I have found the NIVrV (New Internation Readers Version) to be good. It is basically NIV with some words made easier to understand and more readable for children. It doesn't have pictures (not the edition we have anyway) but it has been a good Bible for early readers until they transition to a more 'grown up' version.

My dd9 likes the Adventure Bible for Young Readers (http://www.amazon.com/Adventure-Bible-NIV-Clip-Closure/dp/0310939518/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1224127628&sr=1-6). It has nice illustrations and maps to help her understand what she is reading.

There are so many choices that it is a difficult decision. Good luck finding a nice fit for her.:001_smile:

I don't know how old your dd is. I had read the NKJV to my dd when she was younger. She had a version with Precious Moments pictures in it that she loved. When she turned 6 this summer, I bought her a KJV Bible. She uses it for copywork as well as at church, and she doesn't seem to have any problem with understanding the language.

Take care,
Suzanne

I love it and so do my kiddos, all of them. My ds's like all the illustrations and my dd likes all the interesting historical info that's off to the sides on the pages. It's by Hastings/Thomas, published by NLP. I went ahead and got them all large-print KJV's though, and my ds7 suprised me at how much he's sat down w/ it.

Lots of great girl specific notes and devotion type inserts. My 8 year old has no trouble reading it except for some of the long names and places. :)

Discoverer's Bible, it's leather bound and looks like a grown up version, but has slightly larger font. If you pull it up on Amazone, you'll see the slip cover, the actual cover is plain blue.

The King James Study Bible for Kids (http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/product?item_no=04884&netp_id=274656&event=HPT&item_code=WW&view=covers) is the one my kids, ages 7 up to 13 all use. They each have their own (black for boys, navy for girls) with their names engraved on them. This Bible would serve a child for many, many years.

ETA: Sorry, but you won't find illustrations that your asking about in this one, there are however, drawings of various things that go with the *study* notes: 'in Bible times', 'Let's Live It', 'Did You Know', etc...

NIRV kid's study bible. My son loves it and uhum, I, um, sometimes refer to it myself. ;)

Blessings,

We use the NIVrV Bibles and they are great. The back of mine says for ages 6-10.

I have found this bible at Ross stores for only $11.00
My dd who is now 9 has read this bible 3 times from beginning to end and has transition well to the King James adult bible with no problem.
My ds who is 6 is reading it with ease and loves the colorful pictures.
Hope this helps!

:iagree: My kids love this one, too. It's easy to read and understand, yet it's not dumbed down. You can also get it at amazon or chapters.

:iagree: We too own and love this! It is a story bible (thus looks like one), and has beautiful illustrations, we read this one to our children before they get their own KJV Kids Study bible, around age 7. ;)
