My 5 yo loved his HWOT book and went through it much more quickly than I expected. I'm not sure he's ready for "My Printing Book", though. So for now he's doing copy work but I'd rather him have a workbook of some type. Has this happened to anyone else? Should we keep doing copy work or get a workbook from another publisher for him? I even thought about looking at Walmart or Target to see if there's something there he could use. I know this isn't a big decision, but I thought I'd ask.
Thanks!

Could you buy the book again and put page protectors on the pages so he could do it over and over? Did you buy the slate that the program recommends? My dd does on day of writing on the slate and then the next day she does corresponding page in the workbook. The slate work is to take place of endless worksheets.

We are just finishing our HWOT books also. It was my goal to go through them quickly and then to let good copywork (or other writing, depending on the age) replace it. If I wanted them to stay in workbooks I would look for something cheap at Target/Walmart/Schoolsupply store, etc. as you mentioned, or find a copywork book you like - Memoria Press has a series, Queens Homeschool has some, or you could search Rainbow Resources for others.

For my DS who has fine motor delays, we did the HWT K book twice. I will also make worksheets on K lined paper for the letters or numbers with which he needs extra practice. DS also does some handwriting with Explode the Code -- not much, but I'd rather that he do a few letters well than get sloppy on a lot. One thing that I've found with using other workbooks is that the style of writing differs from HWT. This may or may not be an issue for you, just wanted to mention it.

If he's doing copywork, then I would think he's ready for the next book in the HWT series.

Thanks for the input! I'm not sure what the official definition of "copywork" is, but what I do is print a sentence or two right into his writing pad (big lined paper I got from Walmart called "ABC Primary Writing Paper) and have him copy my writing. So it isn't as though he's copying from a book or anything - just to clarify. I want to have another workbook as opposed to continuing just the copywork because he still needs the instruction for forming his letters. He's doing well overall, but still needs help, of course.
Thanks!

It sounds to me like he'd do just fine with "My Printing Book". :)

Most of the exercises in My Printing Book are reviews of the K book. THe only difference is that there is only a bit of review on capital letter in My Printing Book, the lines are smaller, and there's more word/sentence practices.
