Dear Alpha-Phonics Users,
Do you use any other phonics program after Alpha-phonics? I just looked at a copy of Ordinary Parent's Guide to Reading at the bookstore yesterday; it looked like it went a bit further than Alpha-phonics....
Thanks!

We just read books - we didn't follow a curriculum, I just kept getting easy readers from the library and had ds read to me. He did just fine.

I always do Explode the Code in conjunction with AlphaPhonics - it's a "break" considering some of the harder AlphaPhonics pages. Usually we don't finish the ETC by the time the kids are done with AlphPhonics and by then they can read pretty much anything so I drop ETC. I do have them read aloud to me for several months until they begin picking up harder books on their own just to solidify syllabication, pronunciation and de-coding.

Same as Beth. My dd didn't need any more phonics instruction after completing Alpha-Phonics. She reads very well.
I have started using The Writing Road to Reading with her, but only for spelling instruction... not reading.

Thanks! I'm glad to hear that I won't need to purchase a follow-up to Alpha-phonics! We're already reading fun easy readers from the library, and will continue to do so. I truly appreciate all your wonderful imput. Thank you, thank you! :hurray:
