As he opens up an actual storefrunt to his computer repair business, he's decided to change the name he's been using. I'd love to hear your ideas.
I gave a little more detail to the business on my blog: Ideas Requested (http://whitetrashmama.blogspot.com/2008/02/ideas-requested.html)
An idea he's kind of leaning toward right now is Solid Technologies, LLC. Opinions?

Hi--
I love Rent-a-Geek. It's catchy and memorable.
Solid Technologies is boring and easily forgotten. Rent-a-Geek is the better option, and is different enough from Geek Squad that I don't think you need worry about confusion. I would worry far more about a boring, easily forgotten name.
I also think Geek is just the new term for computer experts. It's okay for more than one business to use the term without fear of copying--it's a generally accepted term. Another I think of is "techie."
I would also not go for any with religious connotations as you may alienate non-Christians, and/or create the impression that he offers services specifically only to religious settings (like a church). I am a Bible-thumping Christian myself--my comments are meant to prevent confusion on the part of the consumer you hope to attract.
Hope that's helpful--best wishes on your new endeavor.

Solid Technologies sounds good to me.
Alternatively, something unequivocally descriptive would work:
Home Computer Repair Specialists
Computer Repair Team
The Computer Doctor
Technology Repair Services
I don't think you need a name that implies Christianity. The way your husband interacts with his customers will be testimony.

I didn't realize Solid Technologies had any religious implications, I thought it meant he specializes in hardware. Duh!
I personally would vote for no obvious religious references (although I totally didn't get it anyway). I do avoid businesses with fish symbols on their signs. I figure if you put up a fish, you don't want my heathen cash :D! This is one of my personal pet peeves, but if enough potential customers are peeved it could adversely affect your business.
Good luck with your new venture!

I have a friend who considered Resurrected Creations for his computer repair business.

"Leave your ailing computer to us"
"One hour trama team response." "24hour computer life support systems available"

Something beginning with "A" b/c it's first in the phone book. That's where I look first.
PP had a catchy name..what about A+ (XYZ name). It also incorporates your homeschooling!

I read the comments on her blog and then came back here to comment. Several people had suggested specifically Christian names.
I don't think Solid Technologies has any religious implications either. :-D

Thanks for the input guys!
No, the intention wasn't to put something overtly Christian in the name. The Solid was supposed to mean dependable....you know, like the song: Solid as a Rock. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtELkPlKP-E&feature=related) Go listen, you know you want to! :D
While we weren't planning on putting an ichthus on there anywhere, I'm glad to know to the opinion that it is actually a turn-off for some. That one never occurred to me. May I ask why? ('cause I'm just curious that way.)
I'd still love more thoughts. Thanks, ladies!!!!!

Techno Tune Up
The Net Works
The Data Base
The Integrated Circuit
Click Right Computers
Techie Terminal
Just brainstorming a bit. Not sure any of these have the "ring" you're looking for.
Good luck!

Personally, I like CompuDoc -- right up until I found a company online with that name. I guess it's an easy name to think up.
I think the name should have something that reflects exactly what your DH's business does.
My 72 year old Mom was looking for a place to get her computer fixed. She would never in a million figure out that Solid Technologies had anything to do with computer repair.
I mention this because it is the non-Geeks, like me and my Mom, who are likely to haul their computers in for repair, and ordinary people like us need a business with an unmistakable name. We are lost enough in technology's maze. Something like We Fix Computers! would work for us.
Now, if your DH isn't going for the typical consumer as a customer, I suppose Solid Technologies would be a good name.

Does he make house calls? If so, then how about Handy Techniman? Some people think of the handyman idea when they need computer help. Anyway, we thought of this name some time ago when my dh was going to start a computer repair business, but then it never happened. (Since we live in another state it wouldn't matter anyway.)
I agree with Rough Collie, you need to make it easy for people to understand and remember. A strong, yet simple logo is important too.
Blessings,
Lucinda
