View Full Version : Programs for kids like CAP?

My boys are helpers for AWANA and they've been attending the Civil Air Patrol meetings for a while now, trying to decide if they want to join. They enjoy CAP--but it is more than an hour's drive to get there. Sometimes they can catch a ride with another family--but that family tends to do shopping and "quick stops" afterwards. That wouldn't be a problem, but my kids go to bed earlier than their family. Last time they got home close to 11:00 (meeting is over at 8:30).

I already make a trip to that city 2 days/week. Another day of travel just seems TOO MUCH.

So my question: What else might there be "out there" that we could look into? My boys love reading about survival techniques. They've built their own log cabin (http://shadesofwhite.typepad.com/shades_of_white/2008/01/ivory.html). They'd love to be able to attend a camp or other activities with like-minded kids.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Have you already looked into scouts? I'll ask dh if he knows of anything else when he get home, otherwise this will at least bump you up to the top for awhile.

The other branches of the military each have their own equivalent to CAP. Maybe another branch would have meetings closer to you. I am looking into Navy Sea Cadets for my ds.

I've tried googling to see if there were any others, but have found nothing. Do you have any links?

Thank you!!!
