My son has decided to attend a private college just 2 hours away. It isn't considered highly selective, but has very good stats as well as a fantastic reputation. He has been given an excellent scholarship to attend. This was his only application and choice.

His junior and senior years have been spent attending concurrent university level courses locally. All of these will transfer to his college of choice. He has carried a 4.0 for 35 credit hours.

I can see the possibility that he may decide to move to another college after a year or two at this private college. My question is this: would it be advantageous for him to take any SAT 2's now even though it won't make a difference to his current college admission? If he transferred, would a college look back to his high school years education or will the transferred hours hold more weight?

TIA

I would GUESS that his university classes would hold MUCH more weight than any SAT-II's. The sAT-II's only indicate high school-level understanding.

Especially given that he has already had some univeristy-level classes, if he does transfer after his sophomore year he would have 3 semesters of college grades plus the univeristy grades from high school. That is a lot of "proof" that he can do college-leve work and that he is (hopefully) succeeding in a college environment.

Transferring is hard, but it is not the end of the world. I transferred after my freshman year and it was the absolute best thing for me. If your ds does decide to transfer, the move may hurt him socially, but being at the "right' school is really important. With all those university classes under his belt, he will not need to "prove" his high school transcript.

Best wishes!
