He's taking Biology this year through our virtual high school. For an honors project, he has to have at least 25 people respond to this survey. He has had 11 responses to emails he has sent, but is running into a deadline. I told him I'd ask you guys. All you have to do is answer the quick survey below. You can put your answer here or email it to me privately at amy@thefoilhat.com. TIA!

Do you think it’s right to test products on animals?

Do you feel that it should be FDA required to test on animals?

What would be a good alternative to animal testing?

No

Do you feel that it should be FDA required to test on animals?

No..in fact, I don't believe it is required now

What would be a good alternative to animal testing?

This is a place where I can see a usefulness for cloning. Cloned human tissue would be a good alternative for cosmetics testing. In-vitro testing is, I think, the most widely used process for alternative testing today. But, honestly, I don't really know that much about it. I just try to buy personal care items that state "not tested on animals" on their labels.

Do you think it’s right to test products on animals? Yes, absolutly.

Do you feel that it should be FDA required to test on animals? Yes, otherwise it wouldn't be safe to begin testing on/selling to people.

What would be a good alternative to animal testing? None. Selling things without testing them on animals to see if they cause any harmful side effects would be very dangerous.

What would be a good alternative to animal testing?
I think if the organic side of cosmetics was more developed, the need for any testing would diminish. Also, I've heard a lot of substances can be tested in petri dishes and by other lab procedures that do not involve live animals. I also buy products that are labeled: Not tested on animals. I hope they are telling the truth![/QUOTE]

Thanks Aileana for answering the survey, and yes, please ask your daughter to answer in the morning if she doesn't mind.

Thank you also, Volty and Liz.

We only need 10 more and Dan meets the requirements for the assignment. Thanks everyone for your help.

Do you think it’s right to test products on animals? Absolutely not for cosmetic and other non-medical products. Yes, for medical products with some controls regarding the basic care of the animals.

Do you feel that it should be FDA required to test on animals? No for non-medical products. Frankly, I believe it is better to test medicines and medical procedures on animals before use on humans, and I have no idea who would do that other than the FDA.

What would be a good alternative to animal testing? For non-medical products, obviously the public elimination or reduction of the dependence on man-made chemical products that would need testing. For medical products, I have not done enough research to be able to answer the question well.
