She wrote this on our break, it wasn't an assignment, just for fun. I'm looking for places to publish her poems/stories/ any ideas? - she amazes me : )

Our Beach
Jillian C. age 13

Dipping, dashing, splishing, splashing
Rolling waves across the sand,
Shimmer, glimmer
The dolphins surf with the awesome surfer man.
Pitter, patter, seagulls scuttle,
Looking for crunchy crabs;
Twittering little shorebirds gaze over silken skies.
Warted old wizened walrus clap flippers and utter cries,
Fishes bubble, whales spout,
Dolphins jump, and crabs have doubts,
The seagulls peck, the walrus puckers,
Wave still roll across the sand;
Rough and rocky shores of stone grate together far away,
But this is the place all call home,
Together with the constant waves.

Excellent writing!! I love poetry, and this just sparkles!
See if your library has a copy of Poets Market. A new edition is published every year, so if it is an older version, verify any names and addresses by phone or web prior to submission. These guides are available at larger bookstores and through Amazon.com also. If your daughter is interested in exploring possibilities of publishing other types of writing, as well, look for companion guide, The Writer's Market.

WOW, that is lovely. What a talented young lady you have. I hope you have success finding an avenue to have her work showcased. She has a gift.

Blessings,

Wonderful poem!:) What about some of the children's or teen's magazines? I had some of my short stories published in Seventeen when I was around 13 or 14.

Lovely poem.

Some magazines publish works that people send in. I just looked up Cricket magazine, but it says they only publish things on their website & entries in their various (creative) writing contests:
http://www.cricketmag.com/faq_display.asp?CatId=9#98

I would check out other magazines too. I thought of magazines because Highlights always had a section of works by kids.

ETA: IEW publishes a magazine called Magnum Opus, which is decided to showcasing student work. Anyone under the age of 18 can submit work.

What a talented young lady! I agree with the above poster who said to check out the most current "Poet's Market" book. It's got so many ideas and so much information that your head will be spinning :).

The Waves
Up from the earth they rise with speed,
Arching their necks, the noble steeds,
With swirling mane and foaming mouth,
By raging wind they advance forth.

The finest ropers could not catch,
For to this herd they are no match,
Onward they go with growing pow’r,
They never stop to smell a flow’r.

They stampede on and paw the ground,
All dash on with a roaring sound.
Their pace slackens with sheer defeat,
To earth they fall, onto my feet.

Beyond impressive, ladies!

I enjoy the opportunity to observe the talents of your children -- these poems are lovely and to the mom's, I wish you all sorts of favour with publishers or magazines so that your children can have their words "out there" for a larger audience to enjoy.
