Does anyone teach there child/children sign language, and if so do you know any links to online stuff for free curriculum?

I've attempted to teach the alphabet. I'm a kinesthetic learner, so knowing the alphabet is invaluable. I "see" words when it's spelled on my hand. Children can benefit from the same thing. However, only one has shown any interest. oh well...

Hi Tracey, Jacob knows the alphabet, and a couple of hand signs like cookie ,ty,happy, birth,to,you, day, love, but thats it

take a class at their co-op and they LOVE it! I wish I could help with curriculum, but I don't know what they use. :-)

ours has a series of DVDs called Signing Time, which our dc have enjoyed. My SIL is an interpreter, and she likes them too.

I think the LifePrint curriculum (the ASL University website) is terrific. I'm going to be teaching a fee-based co-op class next fall, and that's what I'm going to use.

It's essential around here, since DD4 was born with a cleft palate that wasn't corrected until after we adopted her last year at age 3. We've relied primarily on Signing Times (I set the DVR box to find them and then burn them to a DVD). I also use the ASL university link that someone mentioned earlier, and keep two books around to look up things that we need. She and dd6 pick it up quickly, in part, I'm sure, b/c they're young, but also in part b/c we genuinely need it for communication. Though the speech is getting SO much better, there are still a lot of things (at least 70%) that are absolutely incomprehensible w/o sign, especially if said with no context!
