So, DS, who is 3.5 years old, is constantly asking what day it is. ("Is it Saturday?" "Is it Monday?") He is trying to figure the whole time thing out... today, yesterday, last week, etc, but doesn't really get it yet. (He gets things that happen "today" but things that happened in the past are either "yesterday" or "last year.") He also has asked what month it is, and what month came next, so we went through the whole year like that. He's also asked about the seasons, what comes after fall, what comes after winter. Same thing with holidays.. wanted to know which holiday was next, so I went through a whole year or more of saying what was next. Every day he asks what day it is.

So anyway, other than pointing out what day it is on a calendar, does anyway have a suggestion of what I could do with him to take advantage of this curiosity and help him figure things out for himself? Books, activities, whatever. I don't know what's out there, but was hoping some of you might.

The felt board ones are so cute! Something like this one. (http://www.storyresources.co.nz/shop/item.aspx?itemid=570)

For days of the week, I keep an organizer with folders labeled "Monday, etc...." and ds pulls out his coloring pages, handwriting practice, etc. from his folder each day. He enjoys that and is not only learning his days of the week but how to read them;)

What I did to help my LO is went to the dollar store and bought the days of the week for a class room bulletin board and then laminated them and put velco on them and we change them every morning after breakfast. We learned number that way too because we made number and changed the date. Then after we change everything she says Today is Friday October 3rd and then tells what the weather is. We added the weather and she would look out side and say sunny and cold. Then she knows what clothes to pick out.

Thanks for the ideas! I'm liking the felt calendar and ideas that are similar. I like the folder idea as well, but I think it is a bit too old for him as we don't have assigned work each day yet. Still going with the flow here!

My daughter loved the calendar at starfall at that age, it walks them through it and is very fun.

Now, she likes our computer calender...she has her Webkinz's birthdays typed into it!

When my daughters were that age, they really enjoyed a 1957 picture book called "Over and Over" written by Charlotte Zolotow and illustrated by Garth Williams. It explains the cycle of holidays in a way that made sense to them. From the book jacket: "... month by month, the little girl celebrates one special day after another, all year long. Until at last, on the most special day of all--her birthday--she makes a wish that it will all happen again. And of course it will, over and over."
