We used Galloping the Globe some years back when it first came out, but I don't want something of that scale and my budget is on the cheap side. I'm thinking of having my younger one (4th grade next year) use a geography textbook with a few novels along side.

Seems like I remember someone linked to a blog or website that had such a list, but of course I didn't bookmark it.

Anyone?

Look on this thread - it may give you some ideas:

I posted some books, organized by country, but it was based on Sonlight 5, so was Eastern Hemisphere-related. Maybe someone else will have suggestions for Western Hem-related books....

If you have their catalogue, they give brief descriptions of each of the books that they recommend, so you can always tell what culture they are reflecting.

Also, I have liked the "Enchantment of the World" books for about grades 4-6. There is one about each of many countries. Great photos, artifacts, and historical information up to modern times.

And I also like using the AG book recommendations, which are pretty much superior to what I find when I browse the library. Pre-read, though; not all are as Christian friendly as you might like. But it does take a while to plow through all those recs; a list would be really nice. If you have specific countries that you ask about here, I'll bet you would get lots of great suggestions.

GVA,
If you're willing to spend $30, ATA is a tremendous booklist that not only provides literature for countries of the world, but also science and all time periods of history. Within each category, it subdivides into grade levels and genre of literature. I know you said your budget is tight. Mine is too, but I have found that time and time again this has been one of my *best* purchases in my 5 years of homeschooling. I have been using it for 4 years and will be able to use it through high school.

We are finishing up Core 5 but I really wish I had found this website (http://www.ourlosbanos.com/homeschool/history/worldstudies.html) before I started Core 5. I'm adding from it now, but we missed a LOT of good stuff.

I was also going to recommend this book too. Use World CAT Advanced Search (http://www.worldcat.org/advancedsearch) to see if a library near you has the book. (You'll need the title of the book and your zipcode.) I see that eight libraries in North America have it. If one of them is not near you, perhaps you can get it through inter-library loan.

Thank you! I'm just starting Core 5 with my 10yo and doing a world geography study with my 6yo. This site is a gold mine. Thank you!

Yes, I was going to recommned All Through the Ages. It's a great list of books, broken down by country, and recommended age. If you have a good library, this resource would be all you need.
