Hi all! I am new to this board. I am homeschooling my 10th grade daughter. We just pulled her from public high school. Any suggestions of a good Biology curriculum? Any fun Biology websites?

Thanks!

I like this website for extras: http://www.biologycorner.com/

We're using Apologia Biology + Walch Human Anatomy, but we'll probably do a more advanced course later (10th or 11th).

BJU has an excellent Biology course. I like their science very much.

I second Apologia. This book talks to the student on their level.
It is also very user friendly. We have used Apologia Bio, Chem and now Physics and have not been disappointed.

I've purchased the Teaching Company's Biology series, which looks excellent and very detailed, but we haven't started to watch it yet (next year we are planning to study biology). Here is a link, but you can perhaps get it from the library:

Last year we did the Miller and Levine Biology book from Pearson with the Kolbe Academy course plans. It has a virtual lab and the plans had some wet labs as well. Pretty good if not going AP route. Mid session we bumped it up with the Thinkwell Biology lectures only that are excellent. And added some further study of AP labs in order to take the AP test. There are a numer of great books out there in Biology. If you want an AP book, Campbell's Bio is the bible.

We are using Bob Jones University (BJU) Chemistry. They have Biology and Physics as well.

Last year we used Inquiry into Life by Mader (we wanted a secular text so we avoided Apologia, BJU). This year DS is taking AP Biology through PA HS'ers and is enjoying it allot.

Melody, ROFLOL about the Henle. I doubt we'll make it to 3, either. Our poor kids.

We only can do what we can do. I offered.
Frankly, I am kind of glad they don't want to continue I think my mind would have snapped! LOL

I'm using Prentice Hall Biology by Miller and Levine, but I'm looking for a different program. This one is WAY too rigorous for my artsy dd.

Using Apologia with Potters School (online course) worked really well for us. Hope you can find something suitable! Welcome to homeschooling---it is a journey you'll love!

We used A Beka Biology and its lab book based on several recommendations and were very happy with it. I will definitely use it with my younger two kids.

We have always used BJU , and will use the biology for 10th grade.
homesciencetools.com has lab sets to go with each kind of curriculum.

I can't speak highly enough of BJU's satellite Biology course. The teacher is just amazing -- my daughter is actually upset that today is a holiday and they won't be broadcasting! I don't know how easy (or economically practical) it would be to start at this point in the year, though. Even without the satellite course, the text is excellent -- but I really think this particular teacher takes it to a whole new level. I have been very, very pleasantly surprised. (She is so engaging and interesting that my younger two kids get caught up in the lessons, too.)

My father was a high school Biology teacher, and he is very impressed with the BJU course, as well.
