Why does my pic not show up?

Do I have to have it as an avatar? I can't get it as an avatar because of the size. Can I have the pic show up somewhere else?

I'm trying to upload an avatar picture and all I got was "upload failure." Ugh. I guess the bugs will be worked out soon.
