VP First Favorites. Ayone use them? How?

I just purchased Vol. 1 of the First Favorites Comprehension guide. I'm wondering how to use them. Is this for children who are able to read the stories to themselves or is read aloud by mom to kids ok? I'll be using them for 1st grade, but I'm not sure if we'll be up to speed with the reading.

I curious to know if that's how others have used them.

we are using it, I am using it with a K and 2nd grade student, the way we use it is I read aloud the book, then we do one of the pages (like a comprehension page) then the next we do another page, the next day another page...the activity if there is one. We stretch it out for one story=1 week. Sometimes we skip a few weeks in between if we are busy working on other things. I view it more as enrichment to the other reading we do.
