Could someone compare these two for me? I'm wondering if either would be appropriate for kindergarten, or which should come first? Thanks!

I don't know about the other one, but I really like Leading Little Ones to God. I like that the lessons are short and not too sickly sweet. I like that it talks about aspects of God that are not overtly covered in most Sunday School classes for young children-who God is? who is the Holy Spirit etc.

My parents say that they used it for all 4 kids in my family (though I don't remember it:) and it seemed to work. I only have the old version -courtesy of my parents, so I don't know the details of the new one. I'm assuming that the songs are updated. In my version they have short songs from a songbook current at the time.

We have both. Either would work for kindergarten.

Leading Little Ones to God has 86 lessons. Each main lesson explains the lesson topic usually illustrating with a Bible story. This is followed by discussion question, a memory verse, a suggested scripture reading, a hymn, and a prayer.

Big Truths for Little Kids has 36 lessons. Each lesson starts by introducing catechism questions and answers. The number of questions varies by lesson. Then there is a short story about the children, Cassie and Caleb, that explains or illustrates the questions. Then there are a few discussion questions and a Bible verse to use as a basis for prayer.

With my 3rd child I will most likely use Leading Little Ones to God first. The lessons are shorter. I also like the format of having a few verses to read directly from the Bible better. I'll save the second one until I'm ready to focus on actually learning the shortened catechism.

Well, for what it is worth, I'm planning on using both. Right now we are using Everything a Child Should Know about God (for K4). After we finish, we will do Leading Little Ones to God (K5 or there abouts). And after that we will do Big Truths for Little Kids (1st grade).

Oh dear. Another one to choose from! (Everything a Child Should Know about God). Anna is currently four; Catherine is currently 2.5. I think right now I should stick with Bible stories, but Anna is starting to ask more questions about theological doctrines. I was thinking of using one of these next yr, in what will be techincally Pre-K, but she'll be five in November. But maybe I should go ahead and start with Everything a Child Should Know about God now, and then move on to Leading Little Ones next yr (K4) and then Big Truths when Anna is almost six and Catherine is four. That sound reasonable?

We did Big Truths first but I would not have if I had owned Leading Little Ones to God first. It is a better fit for a varied age group. It is solid teaching but not too heavy. My K'er loved Big Truths and enjoyed Cassie and Caleb but it didn't always feel like we learned something to me.
Plus, we were memorizing the Shorter Catechism from Training Hearts, Teaching Minds so the mini version was unhelpful as well.

Sounds good. You could always try it out and if it seems to be too much, just hold off on it until you start your new school year in the fall.

My dd is four and we are using Everything A Child Should Know About God. I find it more appropriate for this age - the lessons are shorter than Leading Little Ones to God. They are "just enough" for my dd.
