but hate math and reading! The two subjects that are most important at this age they hate. Any ideas on how I can mesh the science and history with math and reading to make the latter two more enjoyable? I know the obvious would be to have the read history and science books, but that doesn't work. The mumble and grumble everytime they have to read!

Take turns reading aloud - you read one page (or a paragraph) and your other readers take turns too. Read the history and/or science aloud to them. Have them narrate a short synopsis of what you read. Have them read it back to you. Or have them share it with Daddy (reading it to him, of course!) Time lines use math. In science, graphing, measuring, comparisons etc. all use math. But I think I'd have them do maybe 5 math problems (or whatever number seems best to you) and then switch to something they like to do. Then 5 more math problems. Then something they like to do. . .
