View Full Version : Critically Importatant Firefly/Serenity Question!!!
Yes, everyone stop schooling your children to attend to this question, because IT IS IMPORTANT!!
Thanks to the endorsements on this forum, and the tip that the entire series run is on hulu, I'm halfway through the Firefly series (and boy am I hooked!)
I reserved the movie at the library, and it came in yesterday.
Here's the question: May I stop in the middle of the series to watch the movie, or must I finish all of the shows first to maintain proper chronology?
Thanks for your attention to this important issue!:D
(And someone please explain how this awesome show could have been cancelled?)

I watched the movie before I even heard of the series and was able to make sense of it OK.
We bemoan its cancellation at least once a week while we watch the reruns. But we came to the conclusion that something that perfect just couldn't last.

You could watch the movie prior to finishing the series, but I think you'll enjoy the movie more if you wait.
The movie ties up many loose threads and it's just more enjoyable to see it last, as a climax.

If you watch the movie before finishing the series, it might warp how you watch the rest of the series. There are a lot story elements in the series that are included in the movie but not necessarily explained. You'll have a better appreciation for the characters, history and plotline if you finish the entire series first.
Without giving any spoilers, I wouldn't have watched or finished the series if I had seen the movie first or in the middle.
Hope that helps,
Bonnie
You will enjoy them both more if you watch the movie last.

I would not recommend watching the movie before finishing the series. The movie is intense in the way the series is not -- it's more action based, whereas the show was largely character driven. By the time I saw the movie, I loved many of the characters. I can't imagine it would have had the same impact otherwise.

Oh the pain... I still cannot believe they cancelled that show. We have the series on DVD and the movie. Every time we watch it the pain begins anew..
It was a great show.
Watch the movie last...then shed a tear or two for the cancelled show. :tongue_smilie:

I watched the movie before I even heard of the series, then I had to go watch the series, and then watch the movie over again. WATCH THE SERIES FIRST!
I so miss Firefly!
Thanks for the advice - looks like I'll either have overdue fees on the movie, or a FF marathon this weekend:lol:

We watched the movie several times before we even knew the series existed. I too recommend you finish the series first. We bought the series as a Gold Box special on Amazon a couple months ago...it was a good investment!

I have nothing to add. Watch series first. Then watch movie. I only posted so that I could flaunt my avatar. :D
Enjoy, because there's nothin' in the 'verse like Firefly!

Thanks, Moira! I only wish that I were half as cute--and one QUARTER as optimistic--as Kaylee. (Especially now, on the eve of the Big Budget Busting Bailout.)
But enough reality! We have here a Firefly Fledging. That's so awesome!!

You just can't stop the signal. :D
