You can call the Press and ask, but I would think not. Not only is it a total update, but the new edition tm includes a cd-rom with all the practice pages. You really want those pages, so I'd encourage you to bite the bullet and buy the tm, just me. In includes the correlated lesson pages for fact drill and spiral review, pages that teachers assign as homework (called Spring Into Action in the old edition, not sure in the new), and the challenging application problems (Stretch Your Mind in the old edition) that my dd really enjoys. If you don't use those pages, you're really missing out on a good chunk of what they intend for you to do. They've reformatted the pages, so I don't think using the old edition books would be quite the same. And if you buy the edition editions of those workbooks (Reviews, Spring, Stretch), you've paid as much as you would have for the tm anyway. So just buy the tm, that's my two cents. You've got plenty of kids to use it over the next couple years.
