Can you use this as your spelling curriculum? Has anyone done this? If so, how and at what grade level? Thanks in advance!

I used it when with my older two for a few years, ages 9-13. I made my own spelling sheets with dictation sentences. They would study the words for 3 days and do the sentences as dictation days 3 & 4, with a quiz on day 5. Here's a link to an example of the worksheets (http://homepage.mac.com/rivendellpress/FileSharing44.html) I made.

and I'm glad I have it. I haven't delved into the lists but the intro and the appendixes very interesting.

Beautiful spelling worksheet!
I have the book and have gone to it a few times to find out more about a particular word or spelling, but I haven't read it closely yet to see how/if I would use it as a text book. Thanks for sharing your approach.

The book is laid out alphabetically, by all the different phonetic sounds each letter can make. Under each phonetic heading is a list of words that conform to that phonetic spelling pattern. The columns of words increase in difficulty, so you could use the words listed to make spelling for a child from 3rd grade, up through high school.
The sample pages at amazon.com are unfortunately not very helpful, as they are pages from the introduction, not a look at the actual word lists.
Warm regards, Lori D.

Wow! That is just beautiful. Wonderful dictation sentences as well. I have ABC's and all their Tricks, and to tell you the truth I have not found it useful in the past. But you know what, I think I will dust my copy off and have a better look!:) Thanks so much for sharing because my choice of spelling approach is the one thing that I still feel unsure of.

Thanks for the worksheets Karen, they are gorgeous! How did you make them, if you don't mind me asking?
Thanks,

Thank you. I made them with scanned illustrations from my antique children's book collection and desktop publishing software. Most of the rules come from ABCs, but some come from antique spellers I have. I either made up the dictation sentences or pulled them out of our literature or history. I also included quotes for either recitation or writing in our commonplace books.
