View Full Version : Even staunch, "idealogical" homeschoolers can feel insecure........

I out sourced math this year for my son (8th grade) and my other 8th grade student.

It's being taught in a school/class/co op type setting through a local, large homeschool group. His teacher is a former public school math teacher.

On one hand, I wanted to feel confident and ok. Especially so since we are facing issues in which he may enter public school (not by my choice).

Guess what? He is on grade level, getting 100% on homework and A's on all tests and quizzes. The teacher says he's fine and on grade level.

We used Saxon, btw, starting with 54. Before that we did.....um......math facts. ;)

That is fantastic!!!!

And so good to know. I get insecure, too.

I hear ya, Joanne! I was very anxious about putting my 14 yo twin boys into part-time ps. They are doing very well! Blessings.

I find this reassuring. I tend to turn a microscope in on my failings as a teacher, and lose sight of what they are learning.

Glad your son is doing well.

Right on!

I never finished a math text with my older dd. She went to school in 6th grade for 6 weeks, did pretty well on her math. When she went to community college (at 14) she took basic (non-college) math, then pre-algebra, then alg. 1 and alg. 2 and statistics. She aced them all. Younger dd did some of Saxon's pre-algebra (or was it Math 87??), then she, too, took all her maths at the c.c. and aced them all.

I think this article (http://www.ithaca.edu/hs/mathcs/compass/storyI-III.htm) supports our experiences, Joanne.:D
