I know this has been asked before, but I can't find anything by doing a search of the boards.

I just received a notice in the mail about this program. Can anyone give any opinions on this? Good, bad, not worth the money?

Thanks

I've been dubious of them since they keep sending invitations to my son with autism rather than his gifted siblings.

..... and that's another question I have. Just how do the kids get on the mailing lists?

Here's a link (http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51142&highlight=student+ambassadors) to a discussion that recently took place on the High School boards.

We're probably not going to do it ourselves, but some people have participated in the past and enjoyed the experience. Read through the thread; it should give you a lot of information.

HTH!

My sister did the People to People program in the 70s. She remains friends to this day with the families she stayed with. One particular family has come to the US to visit her, and she went to visit them about five years ago. It was a wonderful experience for her.

That said, I wouldn't do the program now because it's to expensive. And yes, we've got the invitations in the mail for a few years now.

I know children who have gone and loved it. I think it is a very long-standing, reputable program that serves kids nationwide. It is very expensive.

My older son was looking at it for next summer, but the delegation from here goes always at the beginning of June and he can't go then. I think it would be harder to go with a delegation from far away, as you wouldn't really get to meet the kids over the course of the school year and get to know them, the way you do if you are going with a local delegation.

The kids meet monthly, by the way, and work on projects together through the school year, so they are well versed in what to expect of the trip and also know each other pretty well by the time they actually embark on the summer trip.
