View Full Version : Have you seen "Eyewitness to....." books?
I stumbled on this book yesterday at Barnes & Noble: "Eyewitness to History" by John Carey. Is anyone familiar with these "Eyewitness" books? I noticed that amazon also sells a book entitled: "Eyewitness to America: 500 Years of American History in the Words of Those Who Saw It Happen". Just wanted to see if anyone has these books so I could get opinions on them. Thanks.

Our library has tons of the Eyewitness books. There are also videos too. Over-all I like them very much, even though there are a few places where their commentary does not match with our beliefs (re. religion or a subject like evolution). But that isn't an issue for us. I am not familiar with the two titles you mentioned though.
Jean,
I believe you're thinking about those thin, 9"x11" Eyewitness books that are around 65 pgs long, each book on a separate topic.
This book I saw at Barnes & Noble is 706 pgs long and is entitled _Eyewitness to History: Travel through time with remarkable first-hand accounts of the events that shaped civilization_ and is edited by John Carey. The accounts are arranged in chronological order beginning with:
Plague in Athens, 430 BC
Thucydides
... and ends with:
The Fall of President Marcos, Manila,
Philippines, 24-25 February 1986
James Fenton
The other volume I saw at amazon is entitled _Eyewitness to America_ and is written in the same fashion with first-hand accounts written in chronological order only this one pertains to U.S. History.
Nobody has seen either of these books?
