Now that school's in, how are you guys doing with managing your child's school responsibilities with afterschooling. My DD8 just started 3rd grade (2nd full week) and I'm still trying to figure out the best schedule for supplementing/enrichment. When I finish my post we're going to do Math. That's all I've been able to get done afterschool. I've decided to do a new Math lesson 3x per week with reinforcement in between (most games and drills). I'm not very happy with all the busy work that's coming home from school right now. I'm thinking that if I can organize myself a little bit better I can beforeschool and maybe get more things done during the AM hours.
I'd love to hear how it's going for you cybermoms out there??

The best laid plans.... have gone to the wayside! We don't even have that much homework to deal with - school policy is no more than 30min for any grade. But they don't get home until 4pm and then they MUST go to the park. My very quiet and subdued kids are so antsy when they get home....
The revised plan includes reading history in the morning and doing a read-aloud at night. School asks for 15 min of daily reading and I require an additional 30min. That's pretty much it.
I do plan to utilize days off to do fun and educational trips and there seem to be many days off.:001_smile:

Since we did homeschool-lite all through the summer we just kind of kept on with it after school started. We do math and reading is all--Singapore/Miquon and DD reads to me, I read to DD. Plus we do any "homework" that she has from school. It amounts to about 30--45 minutes a day. DD has early release on Wed (why they chose wed. I don't know :glare:), so on Weds we will do science, since it doesn't seem to have any real emphasis at the school. She has been so exhausted from schooling all day long that she doesn't even ask for TV or video game time (usually). She knows that school work has to come first - I am thrilled about this :001_smile:.

We've been able to stick to our stringent beforeschooling schedule so far, but I see that dd, at least, is getting very tired. Her 2nd grade class is far and beyond as academic than her (and currently ds's) 1st grade class was, so I may let up on her a bit. She doesn't mind sitting down in the morning, but when it comes to sitting down again for her homework from school, albeit fairly easy for her, she's just exhausted. I'm also a bit frustrated with the busy work that comes home. At least it is easy.
We're still managing to do Math, Grammar, Writing, Spelling, and Latin before school, History at bedtime, and Science on the weekends or as it strikes our fancy, and most of those all still on schedule, too! Bravo to us!
