View Full Version : As much as I'd like to support the anti-consumerism lifestyle...

I'm better off just admitting how much I love stuff.
My husband gave me one of these (http://www.zune.net/en-US/products/zune80gb/default.htm) last night. Today Jeffrey spent (too much) time teaching me how to use it (he's had one for a couple of years).
He found a software app (http://www.merlinsoftware.com/ebook/index.htm) that allows me to view ebooks on my slick little Zune, and taught me how to convert the files, load them to the Zune, etc.
I bought a pretty leather case so it doesn't get scratched and dented in my purse, and loaded my new friend with Bleak House, Middlemarch, Emma, and Vanity Fair.
I'm actually looking forward to spending time waiting for something so I can pull my trusty Zune out of my purse and read. :D

I hope you enjoy it! I agree, I do try not to get caught up in all the consumerism, but man there is tons of good stuff out there!:tongue_smilie:

I'm pretty sure that, like all my other gadgets, this one will be equally under-utilized.
Think Jerry Seinfeld's dad with his Wizard 'tip calculator'.
So far I only see this as an ebook reader. Maybe I'll add some other media in the near future. :D

It's ok, as long as you are anti-consumerist about some things. It's perfectly ok for me to indulge in books, fabric and kitchen gadgets whenever possible, because all horrible ornament things people give us go into the op-shop bag. Maps and book cases are the right and true path to interior decorating.
I like stuff too. It makes me happy! My stuff does. Dh's stuff makes me very unhappy, like the obsolete computer accessories that he keeps for sentimental reasons. And the Christian rock music tapes that are full of grit that he keeps because he can't be bothered to get rid of them. I suspect this is why he hasn't married me. I think a wife has more right to purge annoying things like broken picture frames, even if they are of sentimental value, and disgusting grey trackpants with stretched elastic, than a mere girlfriend does.
I admit I have more stuff than he does, but at least I know what stuff is there. That makes it alright.
:D

Oh, Rosie! I'm with you all the way.
My husband's stuff does not make me happy. As we type he is sorting through all of his high school team's baseball uniforms (he graduated in '72!), and loads of other STUFF.
I should probably add that my stuff takes up much less space. Whether it's shoes, clothes, gadgets or anything else, I have much less than the average American, and certainly less than my husband. :D

Dh bought me a blackjack for my birthday in May. He was so excited, now I have a calendar, phone, internet, MP3, he even downloaded software so I can watch movies. I use it as a phone. He's so disappointed, but it makes me crazy to try to get on the web on a stinking phone! I know I *can* check my email, but that doesn't mean I have to, does it? It's got pretty good volume, but to watch movies I really need to get headphones, and of course, they aren't any old headphones - I need the Samsung headphones that are $25.00 at the AT&T store. So, I don't have headphones.
He's seriously trying to figure out how he can take it to Iraq with him and leave me his old phone. But by golly, this was my birthday present and I'll do with it as I wish!

It is very important to keep buying stuff. Keeps the economy rolling, you know!
Looks like a cool toy. Enjoy it!

Any chance Jeffrey would want to write up a tutorial for, say, any of your WTM buddies who are challenged in the technology dept?
