Digital camcorder suggestions needed

I am looking at these for Christmas and need some ideas. I prefer something small, handheld, preferably less than $250.00. We'll mostly be doing family videos, but I'd like on that has good audio and memory.

Any brands or model suggestions would be appreciated. Either ones to pick or ones to stay away from. TIA

I don't know what the prices are, but I have a JVC that we paid a lot for (I think over 700 when they first came out). I like the interface, the audio and picture quality. The battery life is not very long but you can buy bigger batteries. The digital still picture quality stinks but I have a separate digital camera so I don't use that feature. I don't know what model we have but it is an Everio. It is very easy to use and the zoom is great.

Memory depends on what quality you shoot in.

I am looking at the JVC Everio's. The one that I want is the Everio 255, it is an older model, but I like all the reviews on it. I'm not sure if I could even find this anymore...we may have to look at something else.

I am looking forward to others recommendations.
