View Full Version : My ds has broken out in itchy hives! What should I do?
Help! My ds woke up once at 11:30 itching and moaning, but we thought he was just scared and sat with him until he went back to sleep. Then he came into our room at 5:30 and climbed in our bed and scratched and scratched. We finally decided to take a look and he has a raised rash ALL over!
We've given him Benadryl and are making him an oatmeal bath right now. Any other ideas or suggestions?

Put hydrocortisone on him and top it with a moisturizer, petroleum jelly is the best.

Continue giving Benadryl as directed until hives have been gone for 24 hours. If there is a change in his breathing or he throws up multiple times, call 911. Typically though the itching will improve ~ 20 minutes after the Benadryl was given. Keep him cool, heat will aggrivate the hives. Trim his nails so if he does itch them they aren't itched open.

Our dd7 had a breakout of hives in May that came and went in waves. We got lots of "well, maybe it's this or that.." from the two different doctor's offices we went to. She was prescribed a steroid pill and I put Benadryl cream on her skin. I also put ice packs on her. She said the ice made her feel better. It lasted about 3 days. The hives were mostly on her hands and feet and some on her arms and legs. Her little face was all puffy. One doctor thought it was the aftermath of a cold virus she had just gotten over. It was very stressful! I felt so helpless! I wish you a speedy recovery!

When dd broke out in them, our nurse's line said to put her in an oatmeal bath or cool bath and give her benadryl.
Thank you everyone! The Benadryl is helping. We'll keep giving it, and if he still has them tomorrow I'll give the doctor a call.
