Our power was out from around 6:00 pm last night until 6:00 am this morning. Coincidentally, that was the moment after my husband jokingly asked "Would you like some coffee?" Our need for caffeine carries great power, apparently.
So, the power is back on. I don't expect it to last, however. We still have hours worth of storm to endure and "nearly all" of Center Point Energy customers are without power.
From what I can observe in the dark outside, it's messy but I do not (yet?) see any major debris, trees, small cheap cars or dumpsters.
The kids slept the night in the dining room. They were "scared and excited".

Hi Joanne,
Are you near Houston? I have family trying to ride it out in League City.

West Houston. My mailing address is Katy, but I'm closer "in" to Houston than what they call "Katy proper".

Maybe you can't know yet, but I'm wondering if any parts of Houston or suburbs are flooded or if there is a lot of wind damage.

I hope you don't lost power. I understand the necessity of coffee, even if the power goes out!
Please keep in touch with us as to how you're doing. I have friends in Houston, but I'm not sure exactly where in Houston.

I woke up at 4am EDT and checked the news and these boards. Then I went back to bed and prayed for all of you until I fell asleep again.

If anyone has Directv - channel 361 (right above the weather channel) is showing Houston Local news - the CBS station.
That might help some of you wanted to be able to check on areas.
Lots of hugs and prayers to everyone.... :grouphug:

We can't get our direct tv to work. We plugged the tv into the genny, but can't get any channels. I 'd love to see what 's going on around me. I feel like we're on a deserted island!:o

Hi Joanne,
Are you near Houston? I have family trying to ride it out in League City.
I used to live in Clear Lake Shores! I can't imagine trying to ride a storm out that close to a lake, though.

I have family trying to ride it out in League City.My parents live in League City, just west of I-45. I talked to them this morning, and they came through Ike pretty well. Lost power at 5am, the big ash tree in the front lost all but 2 of its branches, and parts of the fence are scattered around, but the house is fine. They don't have cell service, so they can't call long distance (the home phone is local only), but people can call them. All in all, they are in decent shape, thank God.
Glad you were able to check in, Joanne! I have a friend in Houston, but I'm not sure exactly where she is. She was online last night until about 2:00 a.m. and still had power, but was pretty tired. Haven't heard from her yet this morning, though. Last I heard from her, her daughter was saying, "This isn't much of a storm" and "Do you think Pizza Hut is open?"

I'm really glad to hear you are safe and that things aren't horrible around there.
